SPORT SPECIFIC

Sports University offers individual and group training for boys and girls in a variety of track and field events. Our track and field program is headed by a world class athlete/trainer who was a U.S. Olympic qualifier for the heptathlon.

Our training is progressive, cutting edge and highly effective for beginners through elite athletes. Our program specializes in improving running technique, increasing speed endurance and regular endurance, improving event specific technique, and improving strength and flexibility. The events offered include: Hurdles, High Jump, Shot Put, Long Jump, and Javelin. Weight training programs will be implemented as appropriate for athletes 16 and up. For younger athletes, we focus on core development, improving balance, and improving strength using sport specific body weight movements.

Workouts include a dynamic warm–up, a work session and conditioning. The dynamic warm–up includes sport specific movements that will improve core strength, balance and flexibility. The dynamic warm–up triggers the fast–twitch muscles and gets the body warm for the workout.

Workouts include sport specific/event specific drills, speed development, explosion, upper and lower body strength, and core development.

After the workout, the athletes will be put through a series of core exercises and stretches to cool the body down and further develop the athlete’s core strength and increase the athlete’s flexibility.
